Beatrice Loraine "Peggy" Powers, born January 6, 1939 in Long Beach, California, passed away on December 29, 2017 from natural causes.
Raised primarily in Long Beach, Peggy attended David Starr Jordan High School, where she met her husband Alfred Wood. Peggy later moved to Mira Loma, and then to Bloomington, CA, where she lived until her move to Fresno in the early 1980s. She had recently moved to be with her daughters in Fallbrook before she passed.
She had many good friends in Bloomington and Fresno, and for many years worked as a manager for Shop-N-Go. She loved animals, reading, movies, and a good cup of coffee with lots of cream. She always had a book with her--usually Louis L'Amour or Lee Child--in case she happened to find herself with some spare time. She used to enjoy sewing, visiting her mother in Lone Pine, and in her younger days she could, from time to time, be found at Lion's Drag Strip on Amateur Night racing under her nickname "The Roach"!
Peggy is survived by her three children: Alicia Novak, Anna Wood, and Alfred Wood; her grandchildren: Sunshine, Matthew, James and Nicholas; her great-granddaughter Amber; her brother James D'Arcy; her nephew Steve Stickley; and many much-loved Cody nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother Virginia Uhlmeyer, her father Reece D'Arcy, her sister Gini Wilson, and her brother Kenneth Greenleaf.
There will be no services, per Peggy's request.
