It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luz Filipinas Pallugna Babao, age 84 on February 14, 2025 in Lake Elsinore, Ca.
Luz or Luchi, as she was fondly called by family and friends was born and raised in Gingoog City, Philippines. Her parents were Dr. Alejandro Pallugna Sr. and Mrs. Justina Bobon Pallugna. She was born on April 13, 1940. She was the youngest of four children in the family; and as such, she was pampered being the baby. Her brothers and older sister doted on her as well as her parents. However, in spite of being the apple of the eye of everyone, Luz grew up a loving, modest, responsible, and considerate child. It was in College that she met Cipriano who was a dashing University varsity basketball player of the University of San Jose Recoletos. Luz was a Nursing student at the Southwestern University. They were set up for a blind date and it was love at first sight. Their love bloomed and on the 2nd of February, 1962 they got married in civil rites, renewing their vows in a Church wedding on the 23rd of December of that year. True love is the test of time, and just several weeks ago they renewed their love vows privately in their home for their 63rd Wedding Anniversary.
Luz was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She and Cipriano had five wonderful children who are now all grown up and have families of their own. Luz was the loving and caring mother to her five children, Jennifer, Ruby, Pinky, Cipriano II and Jo Anne. In her children’s eyes, Luz was a hero and a superhero! She was little in stature, but she was strong, brave and a fighter! She led her children to the Lord, she stood up for her family and she never gave up. Her family grew to producing five grandchildren: Elijah, Timothy, Michael, Matt and Alexandra; and a Great grandchild: Ellie Zion and another on the way this March, Tobias. They all fondly called her “Lola Luchi” and they loved her dearly as she loved them. She was the counselor of her children and grandchildren, giving wisdom with love and guiding them towards the ways of the Lord.
Luchi was a Registered Nurse by profession. She worked for more than twenty years being a school nurse in Cebu City Central School, and the University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu. At a time when being a multi jobber was far and in between, Luchi was already juggling two jobs, along with raising five children and having a ministry in Church. She sent her children to the best Universities in Cebu, and even when times were tough, she didn’t sacrifice on the quality of their education. She was well loved by her fellow nurses and by the working students assigned in the school clinic. Her kindness was a distinct mark of her character and she was generous to a fault, selfishly helping others in need even when she herself was in need. She made people laugh with her jokes to cheer them up. She was a good counselor offering advice to people who were down. Her faith in the Lord, her knowledge of the Bible, her desire to reach out to people, and her prayers for them was what made her a good mentor and friend. Luz left a godly influence on her children, grandchildren and on her working students, all of which are now successful in their careers and family life.
Luz was also the last remaining founding pillar of a Church which she, along with three elders started in Cebu. Luz led her children and many people to the Lord. She was a soul winner, a counselor and an intercessor. Her Church family grieves her passing dearly. Here in Lake Elsinore she was a flock of the Calvary Chapel of Lake Elsinore.
It was on April 9, 1989 that Luz, along with her husband, Cipriano came to the United States. They have become American citizens since then and have lived in California. They loved the California weather and the laid back life in the beach cities. They lived in San Clemente, Laguna Hills, San Juan Capistrano and in recent years, in Lake Elsinore.
Luz will be sorely missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her love, her unwavering dedication to helping others, and for her generosity of spirit.
In the last months of her life, she was surrounded by all her children and her husband. They spent a beautiful Christmas and New Years together. Two of her children, Ruby and Pinky flew in from the Philippines to be by Luz’s side. Little did they know that it was going to be their Mom’s last Christmas and New Year. It would be the most memorable and most beautiful for them as a family. Luz is survived by her husband, Cipriano Babao Jr.
